Тогда скачать из Бранч 4.1
postgresql8.3-server-8.3.1-alt3.i586.rpm,
postgresql-common-1.0-alt3.noarch.rpm
или из Сизифа аналогичные пакеты, после чего
# cd /каталог/где/лежат/пакеты/
# apt-get install ./postgresql8.3-server ./postgresql-common
Если затребует ещё чего-нить, скачать требуемое в тот-же каталог и
соответствующим образом добавить в команду apt-get install
Но последствия такого шага (установка без dist-upgrade) разгребать Вам
самостоятельно.
Более правильный вариант - собрать самостоятельно или попросить кого-нить
сделать бэкпорт.
