Вот здесь http://ati.amd.com/ru/products/discontinued.html сказано что ваш
radeon 9600 снят с производства.
Вполне возможно, что в имеющихся у вас драйверах от ATI/AMD поддержки этой
карточки уже нет. Выкиньте все fglrx из вашей системы.
Вам нужны свободные драйвера:
xorg-x11-dri-ati
xorg-x11-drv-ati
А в /etc/X11/xorg.conf в секции Device указать Driver "ati".
