Пробовал через backports скачать новый драйвер, но окалось, что он собран
под новый image и также использует . Пришлось бросить.

Сделал тоже самое. Только вот утилиты amdcccle (центр управления ATI) на DVD
не оказалось.
Пункт в Центре управления ATI называется "Отключить всплывающие подсказки"
на странице "Добро пожаловать".
