Для проверки логина/пароля Альтератор дёргает
самопальный апатчевый модуль mod_authn_chkpwd
(/etc/httpd2/conf/httpd2.alterator.conf), который в свою
очередь лезет в pam (/etc/pam.d/ahttpd)
Может в эти конфиги ошибка закралась?
Так же можно глянуть /var/log/auth/all, в который ahhtpd
кидает свои логи.
