Странно. Попробуй бутнуться с того же ALM2.4 rescue, может, на
ядро реакция неадекватная какая (что там творится в mkinitrd --
сейчас слабо представляю).
Ну и перегенерить его руками, возможно, подобавляв нужных --with.
Проверить можно, bzcat'нув /boot/initrd-нужный в какой
/tmp/initrd.img, который mount -o loop и результат рассматривать.
