В любом случае для серьёзного применения, IMHO, лучше Intel.

Сколько ни сталкиваюсь с AMD -- с любыми операционками хоть
какая-нибудь, но проблема вылезает. Как правило, решаемая, но всё же...
А если совсем серьёзно, то надо брать брэндовый сервер, от IBM,
например. IBM-овцы, кстати, свои сервера на работу с Linux тестируют,
как утверждает наш конторский сисадмин, который этим делом специально
озадачивался, поскольку эти сервера у нас работают. Правда, тестируют
их не под ALM, естественно, а под SuSE и RH, но разница тут не
принципиальна, опять-таки, IMHO.

Лучше потратиться на нормальную дисковую подсистему. Разница между IDE и
SCSI гораздо более существенно повлияет на производительность СУБД, чем
разница между полугигом и гигом памяти.
А вообще, гигабайта памяти и Ораклу хватит практически под любую
мыслимую задачу. А уж более лёгким СУБД...
