У старых версий mozilla был такой параметр (в advanced), как объём кэша
в памяти. Но, ИМХО, это баловство.

Пардон, да. Ограничить можно пользователя в использовании памяти, но это
приведёт только к тому, что приложение, затребовавшее больше, чем
предписано, будет срублено ядром. Что, собсно, и происходит.
Кстати, а что за mozilla и что за система используется? Обновить
пробовали, пусть даже из Sisyphus?
