Лучше lsmod | grep s.*n.*d смотреть.

Это нормально для винтов эпохи < 1Gb.
Покажите-ка hdparm /dev/hdd; hdparm -i /dev/hdd -- похоже, на нем
отключены и DMA, и unmask irq, и все остальное. Если это так --
занесите в /etc/sysconfig/harddisk/hdd нечто вроде

MULTIPLE_IO=16
EIDE_32BIT=1
LOOKAHEAD=1
EXTRA_PARAMS=-X66a16
