посмотреть man mplayer на предмет hard frames drop, кажется так.
-framedrop (see -hardframedrop option too!)
Frame dropping: decode all (except B) frames, video
may skip. Useful for playback on slow VGA card/bus.
Если проблема эпизодическая, то в сторону -delay (смещение звука) или
во время проигрывания клавишами (+\-, если не ошибаюсь).

Open -> Location -> /dev/cdrom2
кажется, должен стоять xmms-cd плагин, но если Вы можете проигрывать
первый CD, то он у Вас есть =)
