Не так давно это обсуждалось. Чем кончилось не помню, но опишу, что
делаю я. Ставите и настраиваете fetchmail, затем по cron'у в 5 утра
говорите "ifup ppp0" или что там у Вас. Далее fetchmail автоматически
забирает почту. После этого соединение автоматически закрывается, можно
настроить период неактивности, после которого его следует "опустить".
Это грубая схема. Если не сможете самостоятельно раскопать все что надо
и реализавать или наступите на какие-нибудь грабли (их там есть) -
пишите.
