Столкнулся на работе с похожей проблемой, только вот чипсет i845E
Решение этой проблем обещают в 2.4.20, а пока есть вариант пересобрать
ядро с прилагаемым патчем. Правда возможны проблемы, если в системе
несколько устройств будут обозначены как PCI_CLASS_STORAGE_IDE.
У меня работает без проблем, ядро при загрузке resource collision больше
не выдаёт, DMA включается, единственно что частично нет информации в
/proc/ide, а так всё нормально :-)
