Одна беда случилась на работе: пытался установить родные дрова от ATI (у меня видеокарточка - радеон) - ничего не вышло. Снес. Обновил Х до версии 4.2.1. После чего ни одно 3D приложение не работает. gears, к примеру, выдает:

Как вылечить?
А вторая беда дома. После обновления KDE и Х до последних версий DCOP сервер стал "отвергать анонимные запросы". Соответственно все kde приложения крашатся.
Что это такое, я так и не понял - просто запустил xinit и оттуда startkde - вот там про эту ругань и прочел. Полгода назад что-то такое было, а вот как вылечил - не помню. Напомните, плиз...
