Вообще-то пустой (ненагруженный) шлейф вставлять не следует.
А если Вы на него садите что-либо (HDD или CDROM) и тоже виснет,
то сначала убедитесь в исправности шлейфа (заменой), затем,
если машина разогнана, попробовать убрать разгон, если не помогает,
то похоже действительно проблема с контроллером.
