Проблема "падения" cache, а затем squid, решилась записью:
"dns_nameservers 127.0.0.1". Большое спасибо Сергей за "наводку".
В этом случае cache похоже "залёг" в режим ожидания и его log больше
не растёт. Похоже работа со squid в Инете наладилась. Например, Opera
без подключения в Инет мгновенно показала домашнюю страницу.Чего
нельзя сказать о Mozilla. Имеем такое сообщение:
"Unable to determine IP address from host name for ...(далее URL).
The dbsserver returned:
Server Failure: The nameserver was enable to process this query."
Как тут не вспомнить ответ Valentin Nechayev:

Дело в том, что у меня стоит и пакет и упомянутая запись присутствует
в виде "localhost 127.0.0.1" и /var/lib/named присутствует с большим
набором каталогов и файлов, но что означает:

Я так понял, что надо где-то, что-то прописать, или всё "встало" по
умолчанию. Тогда как понимать "привет" от Mozilla.
Давайте разберёмся до конца. Согласны?
