Все запуститься. Slackware тоже работает где-то на старом 386 и не
ругается. Правда ядро конечно лохматого года (93). В сети где-то видел
статью на английском недавно как установить на компьютер с малым
количеством оперативной памяти слакварь и редхат. Как вариант, даже в
инструкции по инсталяции написано про "сделать вначале своп-раздел" и
потом уже ставить систему. Могу описать процесс утсановки на старые
ноуты (правда пни 1) Texas instruments and toshiba sattelite 430.
Ничего сложного нет, только долго ядро собирается.
