Не знаю, что вы подразумеваете под "из коробки". У меня gentoo (где, я
почти уверен, по мнению пользователей altlinux, всё не из коробки :D).

Насколько я понял это так только в случае с cbc. А какой callback, когда
нужен poptop с mppc? Повторяю, с патчем mppe-mppc у меня pppd работает.
Правда этот патч мне нужен по причине того, что даёт возможность иметь
одновременно пользователей с шифрованием данных и без.
