Did you try aumix or any other mixer to see if the levels are OK? Would XMMS complain due to "device busy" or "play in silence"? Are you using KDE? If yes, then try to find in its Config Center (sound section) something like "start artsd at startup" and disable it, then run "killall artsd" -- that could be troublesome too. -- ---- WBR, Michael Shigorin <mike@altlinux.ru> ------ Linux.Kiev http://www.linux.kiev.ua/ >From tama4@amnet.co.cr Mon Jun 23 20:30:36 2003 Return-Path: <tama4@amnet.co.cr> Delivered-To: community-en@lrn.ru Received: from master.altlinux.ru (master.altlinux.ru [62.118.250.235]) by lrn.ru (Postfix) with ESMTP id 93CCE49959 for <community-en@lrn.ru>; Mon, 23 Jun 2003 20:30:34 +0400 (MSD) Received: from amnet.co.cr (mail.amnet.co.cr [196.40.3.6]) by master.altlinux.ru (Postfix) with ESMTP id ED412E31CF for <community-en@altlinux.org>; Mon, 23 Jun 2003 20:30:33 +0400 (MSD) Received: from 10.11.12.244 ([10.11.12.244] verified) by amnet.co.cr (CommuniGate Pro SMTP 4.1b6) with SMTP id 11379062 for community-en@altlinux.org; Mon, 23 Jun 2003 10:29:57 -0600 From: chad <tama4@amnet.co.cr> To: community-en@altlinux.org Subject: Re: [Comm-en] Sound Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2003 10:21:42 -0600 User-Agent: KMail/1.5 References: <200306221553.19511.tama4@amnet.co.cr> <200306230748.14413.tama4@amnet.co.cr> <20030623145723.GG21550@osdn.org.ua> In-Reply-To: <20030623145723.GG21550@osdn.org.ua> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200306231021.42322.tama4@amnet.co.cr> X-BeenThere: community-en@altlinux.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: community-en@altlinux.org, tama4@amnet.co.cr List-Id: <community-en.altlinux.org> List-Unsubscribe: <http://www.altlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/community-en>, <mailto:community-en-request@altlinux.org?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: </pipermail/community-en> List-Post: <mailto:community-en@altlinux.org> List-Help: <mailto:community-en-request@altlinux.org?subject=help> List-Subscribe: <http://www.altlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/community-en>, <mailto:community-en-request@altlinux.org?subject=subscribe> X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2003 16:30:39 -0000 Michael, I must apologize. Sound IS working. I was used to hearing the KDE startup tune (Mandrake 9.0) and since I did not hear it, assumed nothing sound related was working. I was wrong. Sorry for the xtra trouble. Sound in XMMS seems fine. Will check other sound related programs over the next few days. I have a few other isses to work out with JR.....getting my PalmPilot working and my digital camera. But, I will take a few days to see if I can stumble on a solution before posting for more help. Thanks again. best Chad On Monday 23 June 2003 08:57, Michael Shigorin wrote: > On Mon, Jun 23, 2003 at 07:48:14AM -0600, chad wrote: > > Thanks, its been difficult getting any help for Jr. > > > :( > : > > As a new user of linux some things seem very complicated to try > > and figure out.
